Stones

Read Joshua 4:20-24.

This occurs after the Israelites cross the Jordan river into the Promised Land. Similar to the Red Sea, the Jordan river is parted, and the Israelites safely cross over as part of the invasion of Canaan.

But, why set up these stones? It was set up as a reminder of what God had done that day. God had charged the Israelites to conquer the land of Canaan. Crossing the Jordan river could be seen as the first step into the ministry God had set for them. Once they crossed over, they set up the stones to remain as a testament of His power. So that even generations later, their children will know that "the hand of the Lord is mighty, so that you may fear the Lord your God, forever."

It's the beginning of a new school year. For some of us, including myself: this will be our last year at Ryerson. God has called us to certain ministries, whether it will be helping out with worship, mentoring others in ccf, encouraging people, taking part in the various sports ministries, and the list goes on. If you feel like you aren't doing anything anywhere, I ask that you pray and seek out what He wants you to be at Ryerson, this year. If you are taking part in a ministry, that is good, because I have a question for you. My question to you is this:

Are you setting up "stones" that people will see in the future? Upon seeing these "stones", will they know the Lord is mighty and offer Him praise?

Hmm.. for me, I hope that my "stones" will be the lifestyle and examples I have set throughout my life. And I know initially when people read this, some may think, wow... is brian saying that he's perfect, definitely not.

But I believe that more than saying a couple of lines or doing 1-2 extraordinary things, I rather live a life that reflects the glory of Him. The goodness and greatness that can only come from Him, who gives me the hope I have in my life.

One of the people I know and miss dearly, is Justin Ho. Many of you may not know him, but it was his lifestyle and how he choose to live life is what I admired. Till this day, when I look back, sure he was a great guy, but more than anything... this was a guy that totally and completely a man after His heart. Where his ultimate prize and want wasn't to graduate, find a job, etc... it was simply Christ. I hope that the "stones" I lay will exemplify that too.

Joshua 5:20-24, yea i don't if there are verses existing, and i don't if I KNOW the bible THAT well, but the bible i've been reading, yea no verses.

The stones in my life would be trying to live out His word and i know i can't do it by myself, but with the help of the Holy Spirit

I often wonder what it is about guys like Justin or Jeff that people look up to... and yah, I definitely agree with Brian Yee that it's very simply... their heart is after God. What a great testiment to them and God's work in them.

Personally I don't know if I have stones I'd lay... but I'd like to say that when my time is up at CCF... ppl might be able to say, hey, Jono loves God, and he loves worshiping God. Or it'd be cool if ppl can say, hey, he wasn't the greatest example in terms of lifestlye, but he challenged me to be a better leader / challenged my spiritual walk.

That'd be pretty cool.
