Name taken for granted

Exodus 20:7

7 "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

one of the favourite ones here, you see many people constantly misusing God's name in substitution of profanity or with it. i was just going over my bookmarks in my dusty bible and i came upon this verse. this is one that hit me than other ones because i see this happen so much and almost everywhere i go and any day. As most of us do it because of habit or just see it as better than plain old profanity, well guess what? its not, its just as bad if not worse if you believe.

rather than saying something in substitution why not just not say anything at all, i know its hard as i do it as well so i challenge the group of you to not do it for at least 2 weeks

~devo not taken from anywhere, i just found a passage from reading the bible

yea, definitely. we're not here to point fingers but its ONLY a game and shouldn't be taken seriously.

you know you take something WAY too serious when you start running your mouth and it is overflowing to the screen where everyone can see it.

the tongue

such a small muscle, but the muscle that does the most damage out of it all. if you are not going to be edifying with your words, then dont say it at all. I believe that we should all watch our mouths.

I am not for substituting "swear words" with somethign else. Swearing just shows you dont have any other vocabulary :)

lets work on it together, catch each other using a swear word?

talk to him, heck, make a swear jar if u want ^_^

spur of the moment. all i have to say.

but yes, this is quite insightful since it also brings into question what we take for granted. We shouldn't take a lot of things for granted, but we do. EVERYONE needs to work on that, especially me.

spur of the moment eh?
i'm just wondering if any of us other guys have similar feelings and thoughts when we go through the exact same things. As Jacky has said... the tongue is a small muscle, but can cause great joy, and great suffering at the same time.

Speaking about communication with the tongue, there are also other ways of expressing oneself. If i remember correctly, in one of my courses i learned that words make up about 7-10% of what people understand (only relatively accurate) and that body language makes like 60% of the rest of communication. But then from there.. comes different problems like.. incorrectly reading people's emotions or whatnot.

but yea, i've always tried my best to not swear, to not have my anger explode so freely.. so yea...
