"Come to me..." (Matthew 11:28)
Isn't it humiliating to be told that we must come to Jesus! Think of the things about which we will not come to Jesus Christ. If you want to know how real you are, test yourself by these words- "Come to Me...." In every dimension in which you are not real, you will argue or evade the issue altogether rather then come; you will go through sorrow rather then come; and you will do anything rather then come the last lap of the race of seemingly unspeakable foolishness and say, "Just as I am, I come." As long as you have even the least bit of spiritual disrespect, it will always reveal itself in the fact that you are expecting God to tell you to do something very big, and yet all He is telling you to do is "Come..."
"Come to Me..." When you hear those words, you will know that something must happen in you before you can come. The Holy Spirit will show you what you have to do, and it will involve anything that will uproot whatever is preventing you from getting through to Jesus. And you will never get any further until you are willing to do that very thing. The Holy Spirit will search out that one immovable stronghold within you, but He cannot budge it unless you are willing to let Him do so.
How often have you come to God with your requests and gone away thinking, "I've really received what I wanted this time!" And yet you go away with nothing, while all the time God has stood with His hands outstretched not only to take you but also for you to take Him. Just think of the invincible, unconquerable, and untiring patience of Jesus, who lovingly says, "Come to Me..."

We really must remember that God is always open to us. It's us who turn away, we don't like the things we see that god can offer because we lack faith, and/or we focus too much on worldly things. We sometimes rely too heavily on God or our expectations such that we don't try to do anything ourselves. We must remember to let go of things that will hold us down so that we can answer back to God. Just a few thoughts on the matter,
Andrew
bah! I typed up a whole bunch of things for this comment, and only to accidentally delete it.....
the jist of it was, Is there something that you are holding back on from God? Is God asking you to give up something, and you haven't, and you are trying to negotiate with God? He has your best interests in mind, better than your own. I encourage you to give up everything to God, and he will set your paths straight. I know i did when i quit world of warcraft.

PS: if i have time, i'll rewrite what i ahd earlier
I think that most of the time, i ask for something and i get it, and then i back away from God. It's definitely a bad habit. In doing so and reading this devo, it makes me wonder of all the things i take for granted and then coming back to God and thanking Him for everything He has done, when i could have said a little prayer when it happened and not just a period of time down the road.
And when God tells me to come back to Him, i shouldn't be afraid but i am. Its like doing something wrong and trying to get away with it. Meanwhile, subconsciously, you know God knows and watches all your moves. I pray for strength and courage to come to the Father of all, being fearful of His power, but knowing He also cares for me.

Going on that train of thought, I prayed for God's help in quitting Final Fanasty XI (online), and I did for awhile, but then I unquitted out of selfishness. Funny now that I log on less than a few days a week, and most times I'm on, I log off in 5 minutes because I'm so tired. God is funny when it comes to prayer sometimes.
I think if we pray earnestly and truly mean it when we go to God for requests... if He is willing, He will give it to you, and even give you more than what you asked for. It's pretty cool that way.
Mind you God isn't a genie or a Pez Wish Dispenser... but if you come to God with the right heart and attitude, and it's for something that is in line with His will... oh man. God is awesome.

the power of prayer is truly an interesting concept, i for one, oten behold its potential but never seem to accept it for truth, but rather rationalize it with an excuse. personally, its a struggle for me to keep asking god for things because not only do i not deserve them, a parto f me also does not believe that anytinhg will happen. maybe my faith is weak, or maybe im not thinking hard enough, but i definitely admire those who can fully rely on god, and to comment on andrew's thang, "We sometimes rely too heavily on God" , is this possible? isnt it the more reliance/dependence the better? Should we reserve some aspects of our life for ourselves? Arent we supposed to be comepletely and fully devoted?
Those are just some random jabberings, later guys
